Are You Smarter Than AI? CCAIS at SOTSEF

On 15th March, we participated in the Southampton Science and Engineering Festival (SOTSEF), which welcomes 5,000+ members of the public each year.

Under the heading “Are you smarter than AI”, we offered a range of activities, including a live Turing test that challenged visitors to tell a chatbot from a (human!) CCAIS researcher, a challenge to play Flappy Bird against an AI-trained agent, a drawing contest, a serious game to elicit human ethical preferences, and a lecture on AI.

We interacted with hundreds of visitors on the day, and we’re glad to report that humans still beat AI at many tasks. But the gap is definitely closing compared to last year’s event!
