Interspeech 2023 Overview

CCAIS academic Dr Jennifer Williams co-organises leading speech conference

The Interspeech 2023 conference was held in August in Dublin, Ireland. This flagship conference in speech technology brought together international participants across many scientific disciplines including linguistics, cognitive science, and a wide variety of speech technology capabilities. CCAIS member Dr Jennifer Williams was a local organizer for the conference, Senior Area Chair for the Special Sessions, as well as co-organiser of three satellite workshops there. One special session was a panel discussion that focused on “Assessing and Mitigating AI Bias in Speech Processing Systems”. The session was well-attended and covered a range of issues from bias in data collection to evaluation of bias in prototype systems, and international approaches to AI regulation.
