BBC News interview on electric cars

Tue Oct 1 2024

CCAIS lead Prof Seb Stein was interviewed on BBC News on 5th September to comment on Volvo’s decision to abandon their commitment to sell only fully electric cars by 2030. While disappointing for electric car proponents, this comes in the wake of slower electric car sales across the EU, disappearing government subsidies and a general worry about the charging infrastructure.

Prof Stein talked briefly about the exciting research work that is done at Southampton to address some of the challenges facing electric cars. The video interview can be found here.

To find out more about the research, read about how Southampton is developing new charging stations that do not require a grid connection (eg in rural areas).
